Resolved Question: Does anyone know anything about WAN and LAN/WIFI indicator lights on routers?

27 July 2010, 6:36 am

I noticed last night that my WAN light was blinking very, very rapidly - then the LAN/WIFI joined it! I switched the whole thing off before I went to bed, then put it back on this morning. There was no activity at all for a couple of hours - now the WAN is going mental again. Anybody know why? Is something trying to attack my PC or is this activity benign? STEPHEN: I use my wireless connection for my laptop. My connection is also secure - it was professionally installed. DON M: I don't normally turn my router off unless my broadband goes down, then I turn it off and back on again after a few minutes to check everything. Last night I thought my PC could be under attack, so off it went - and I'll do it again if needs be! CJ: I couldn't count the "blinks"! At this moment in time, WAN and LAN/WIFI appear to be having a competition to see which can "blink" the most! But it's the WAN indicator which is doing most of the "blinking", the LAN/WIFI joins in for a wee while, then they go static - and now they're off again! Mental!! HERE'S A NEW TWIST FOLKS! My Broadband went down yesterday afternoon and NOTHING I did could get it back. I switched everything off last night, switched on this morning and got conneciton long enough to pick up my email - then NADA! I've spend about two hours this afternoon trying to get the bloody thing back on, gave up and dialled TalkTalks tech line (I avoid this mob like the plague cos half of them haven't a Scooby WTF they're talkin about!). Halfway through the menu choices my Broadband came back on! Any thoughts, given what I was saying about my Router lights flashing like hell? I thought maybe my router was at fault, but everything was SHOWING as connected - except I couldn't ACTUALLY connect to the Internet! NB: Please excuse spelling errors above - didn't check before I posted!! Don't know who is giving TD's but it ain't me! If people are good enough to take the time to respond to my questions I give TU's, whether it's relevant or not. Unless of course the reply is rude - then I respond in kind! lol!... Read More »
